About Kambako/PBL:A little known place to most adventurers, and isolated until the late 1990’s, Kambako is set to become a wilderness of unbelievable memories, sought after, perhaps by a adventurous individual like yourself. One that has always hoped the old Africa, experienced by early safari pioneers, still remains somewhere, just as wild. Kambako is that wilderness, one that is as close to old Africa, as exists today. Kambako Safaris has been operated in the Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique since 1999. A couple of years ago, it was transferred to new owners, ones who take conservation and wildlife management seriously. Kambako’s management team has taken it upon themselves to elevate Kambako’s Block B to a higher level of game management and big game safari services. This in turn gives the customer what can only be described as an incredible, “back in the days” type of experience. Large numbers of animals, vast unsettled virgin land, and ample viewing opportunities create a “remote out there kind of place”. Kambako will give you what you’ve dreamed it used to be like. About Niassa Reserve:The Niassa Reserve is the largest conservation area of Mozambique with a surface of 42,000 km². The total area is twice the size of Kruger National Park in South Africa, or is comparable in size to Wales, Denmark, or Massachusetts. The reserve has, by far, the largest concentration of wildlife in the country. The estimated elephant population of 12,000 is one of the last free ranging, migrating herds left in Africa. The Reserve is also home to Cape Buffalo, Wild Dog, Lion, Leopard, Sable Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest, Eland, Kudu, Duiker, Warthog, Spotted Hyena, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Hippo, and Crocodile. Of particular interest are three endemic subspecies, which exist in Niassa but are rare elsewhere, namely: Niassa wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus johnstoni), Boehms zebra (Equus burchelli boehmi), and Johnstons impala (Aepyceros melampus johnstoni). The Reserve is also rich in birdlife with over 370 bird species having been identified. About Mozambique:Mozambique borders Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Swaziland. The country has one of the longest coastlines in Africa with exquisite beaches, coral reefs, and islands. Inland the landscape rapidly changes to coastal plains, swamps, plateaus, alluvial valleys and mountain ranges. Because of the differences in latitude and the Indian Ocean, Mozambique has a varied climate. Coastal areas are considered warm and temperate during all months with surge in temperatures from December to March. Inland climates vary due to the variance in altitude but are considered moderate during the winter months, May/June/July. An average temperature of 22 degrees centigrade (72F) is encountered. Temperatures rise to 32 degrees centigrade (90F) during October/ November with seasonal rains starting in mid November. Generally our safari temperatures are pleasant with nights and early mornings being quite cool. The official language throughout the country is Portuguese with Swahili widely spoken in the Northern provinces. Situated in northern Mozambique in the Niassa Province, Kambako Safaris offers a unique experience for the adventuresome traveler. Being able to experience the beauty of Mozambique’s 1200 mile coastline and the vastness of the African Bush is an unforgettable journey. Two Bush camps and a beautiful beach front lodge allow Kambako’s clients to enjoy a variety of cultures, atmospheres, and activites.
